| News (May 1, 2003) - Point du Hoc growing close to finalization. After a long delay due to several other mapping projects in the work, Point du Hoc finally nears completion. This small, tight, infantry based map is the follow-up to Omaha Beach, and second in the series to be released. Check up the latest screenshots to the left! ________________________________________ News (Feb 21, 2003) - Omaha Releases!!!! Longest Day: Omaha is now available for immediately download at BFNation Clan website as well as other locations. You can find the file HERE Thank you all for your patience and support. I hope you enjoy the map as much as I enjoyed making it. The map will be running online starting tomorrow on server BFCPT, an east coast based server hosting 32 players on a T-1 line. And you'll be happy to note that work has begun on Longest Day: Point du Hoc, and already the heightmap is looking good. Ingame shots will begin to be posted next week. _________________________________________ News (Feb 18, 2003) - We ran another beta test tonight just for good measure. The graphics glitch was only fixable by removing the modded battleship, but we were able to get a third destroyer on the map that functions properly for the allied side, so that will replace the lost battleship. Release date is now scheduled for Friday, February 21st. Details will be forthcoming later, and look for additional news at: http://www.bfnation.net Enjoy the 3 new screenshots! _________________________________________ News (Feb 13, 2003) - The final textures have been rendered and applied and look pretty good. I'm finishing testing the map today and have one more bug I am fixing, and we will run the beta test tonight. Depending on any changes revealed during the beta test, the map should have it's public release in a few short days. _________________________________________ News (Feb 12, 2003) - Map is now Road to Rome complient. You will need Road to Rome to benefit from the new additions to the map. The Allied side now has the M3GMC instead of the M3A1 halftrack, and there are Pak40 emplacements scattered around the map. Beta testing is still scheduled for today or tomorrow. _________________________________________ News (Feb 11, 2003) - We've finished final object placement and are rending our final textures. We'll put the map through it's final beta testing paces later this week and will hopefully be able to release it by this weekend! Yeah!!! _________________________________________ News (January 21, 2003) - The early part of the beta test has been completed and we are heavily into modifying the map now. The good news is that we have part-time access to a copy of 3ds Max now, via a very generous friend who works with it. The bad news is that 3 days were lost getting used to the new software, but things are cooking right along again and we should have beta 2 up in another day or so for testing. Two new screenshots have been posted showing additions we've made to the map. _________________________________________ News (January 13, 2003) - The map is going beta this week. Final objects have been placed and everything, for the most part, seems to work as planned with one small exception that is being worked on. Hopefully the beta test will go well and I'll be able to release the map to the general population in one to two weeks. Stay tuned! _________________________________________ News (January 8, 2003) - I've redone the texture map and it looks MUCH better. There's a new thumbnail on the right that shows the new texture in comparison with the old. Old texture is on the far right, initially new texture on the far left, and the pretty much final texture is in the center. It's a big file, so be patient. _________________________________________ June 6th, 1944. Shortly after midnight it began, with Paratroopers dropping deep behind the enemy lines to cut off bridges and block the advance of enemy reinforcements. But, by the end of the day, D-Day had become known as "The Longest Day". The Americans faced stiff resistance in many areas, but none more so then on Omaha Beach. Allied bombers had failed to find their targets at Omaha due to low cloud cover and fog and the Germans were still strong, still prepared. What the Americans faced was nothing short of a blood bath. Omaha Beach: Longest Day is an attempt to capture the spirit - and possibly needless tragedy - of Omaha Beach within Battlefield 1942. While the original game included an Omaha Beach module, it was widely felt that map did not reflect accurately the conditions that faced the troops that day so many years ago. No map could truly justify the horrors that took place on Omaha Beach, or the sacrifices that were made by American soldiers that day, nor could we hope to map with 100% accuracy all the defenses and fortifications that were part of Germany's great Atlantic wall. But we hope this map, and the additional maps that will follow (starting with Juno beach), will create an experience that is more true to what Omaha Beach was really like. Alot of hard work went into this map. Without expensive mapping and modeling tools such as 3ds Max, it was a challenge to properly place all objects. And the map is by no means complete, and is and probably always shall be considered "a work in progress." The terrain is accurately redrawn from Omaha Beach contour maps and the village of Colleville-sur-Mey is placed near to its true-to-life location. But of course, liberties have been taken with the geography and building placements in acknowledgement of the fact that this is still a game, and a game with certain limitations that cannot be overcome given the range of tools available to the author. Enjoy the map. If you like what you've seen, write the author and let him know. Your support is what will convince him to do additional maps in this series. That and a proper map editing tool *grin* |
